Crafting a comprehensive strategy for the policy development and effective implementation of inland waterways transportation was the mission at hand. In Colombia, a country known for its substantial exports of oil, coal, and agribusiness products, the untapped potential for production far exceeded the capacity of existing inland transport systems. Astonishingly, the major river networks in the region contributed to a mere 1% of the overall transport volume.

STIG embarked on the ambitious task of formulating a robust river transport strategy that could compete with the existing road and rail infrastructure. This encompassed a wide array of considerations, from logistical and infrastructural enhancements to recommendations for institutional improvements. Furthermore, our strategy laid the foundation for fostering international cooperation between Colombia and the Netherlands, facilitating the exchange of expertise and best practices.

This initiative exemplified STIG’s commitment to facilitating sustainable and efficient transportation solutions that not only unlock economic potential but also foster international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
