Panama Canal Authority (ACP)
Challenge
Following the Panama Canal Expansion, Panama sought to harness the increased transshipment volumes and diversify into new commodities, necessitating a comprehensive plan for sustainable economic growth in its logistics cluster.
Contribution
In collaboration with Antea Group and CroonenBuro5, STIG won a public tender to transform a 1200-hectare area on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal into a cutting-edge logistics park. This project was a pivotal component of the Canal’s expansion, which facilitated the transit of 1.7 billion cubic meters of cargo, significantly boosting container throughput and accommodating larger Panamax vessels, marking a substantial change in Panama’s logistics landscape.

In a successful collaboration with Antea Group and CroonenBuro5, STIG emerged as the winner of a competitive public tender issued by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). Our joint effort aimed to transform a vast 1200-hectare area on the West Bank of the Pacific side of the Panama Canal into a cutting-edge logistics park. This endeavor aligned with the completion of the Panama Canal Expansion, which introduced significant changes to Panama’s logistics landscape.
With the expansion, Panama anticipated handling increased transshipment volumes and diversifying into new commodities, including liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ACP sought a comprehensive plan that would identify projects and activities conducive to sustainable economic growth within Panama’s logistics cluster.
The logistics park project was a pivotal component of the Canal’s expansion, a venture initiated in 2007 and concluded in 2016. This expansion facilitated the transit of 1.7 billion cubic meters of cargo between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and boosted container throughput, allowing the new Panamax vessels to transport up to 13,000 containers, a substantial increase from the previous 5,000.
